"Old" vs "New" Ragnarok Online 2

Games

I want to take some time to talk about the difference between the "Old" RO2 and the "New" RO2 plus some things that made the "Old" RO2 popular but at the same time how it epic failed.

There are many new things that the "Old" RO2 brought to the table that the original RO lacked. The main prime difference between them was going full 3D instead of 3D world/2D sprites. The "Old" RO2 was developed using the Unreal Engine 2.5 which made it graphic intensive and hard to play on old computers. Aside from the newly upgraded graphics it offered, other features were noted on RO2, like the quest system which actually helped you level as you progressed. One of the nice features that people liked but failed miserably was the ability to change job classes at will. The original RO was designed that you create one character for the class that you wanted to play as, thus ended up creating many different character for each different class you wanted to play. With that new system it made it easy to just create one character and play all the other classes without creating new characters. Another great thing I liked on RO2 was the fact that it was still fast-paced battling just like the original RO. The scenery was great, very detailed, colorful, and enjoyable. The quest system was introduced in RO2 which actually helped in leveling up your character instead of grinding your way through killing monsters to level up.. oh wait you still had to do that. LOL 'Kill XX amount of pukuis' and receive X amount of exp and rufi.

So what exactly made it fail? Why go to the point of remaking a "New" RO2?

For starters, some of the player feedback during the testing of RO2 wasn't any good. Firstly, the stats were broken. Yes, broken! Some stats didn't even work, so it was pointless to add stats to certain classes. Certain quests were broken as well so there were some that couldn't be finished or turned in. Some classes were more powerful than others. *cough*mages*cough* I remember soloing bosses on my mage without needing a tank or healer. What made it even hilarious was that mages had spells of healers so we had the spell heal, could use it at will, while still spaming elemental skills dealing high damage. Oh wait theres more! Certain classes had skill which didn't even work! Can you say, useless? Of course. I could keep on going on the lists that made it fail but with these you get the idea. If you were in the Open Beta for RO2 just like I was, please do leave comments on your thoughts in this matter.

Moving on.

So Gravity decided to kick Ragnarok Online 2: The Gate of the World to the curb and remake a new one from scratch. This is where Ragnarok Online 2: Legend of the Second comes in. Gravity promises that the "New" RO2 will be the true sequel to the popular RO game, which many of the things found in RO will be used in the "New" RO2. Here are some things I've gathered so far that Gravity has released to the public about RO2: Legend of the Second:

  • There will be two different type of Job classes in RO2: Combat Jobs and Life Jobs
  1. Combat Jobs 1st Class: Swordsman, Rouge, Archer, Acolyte, Mage
  2. Combat Jobs 2nd Class: Knight, Theif, Hunter, Priest, Wizard, Fighter, Assassin, Ranger, Monk, Elementalist
  3. Life Jobs: Doctor, Tailor, Chef, Blacksmith

  • Some RO towns will be appearing in the "New" RO2
  1. Prontera
  2. Payon
  3. Geffen
  4. Morroc
  5. Einbroch
  6. Alberta
  7. Umbala

Well thats all the information I'll be posting for tonight. The next article to follow up on this one will have more details on what Gravity has released so far on RO2: Legend of the Second plus some screenshots. Be sure to stick around to read more about the "New" RO2. Please leave some comments on your thoughts so far about the "Old" RO2 and the "New" RO2.
