Ragnarok Online 2

I wanted to make a post about the new, finally correctly, re-done, Ragnarok Online 2 which has been renamed officially as Ragnarok Online 2: Legend of the Second. If you ever played the first Ragnarok Online game, or are still playing it, do please read the information below about the new Ragnarok Online 2.

For those that have not been following the developments of Ragnarok Online 2, here is a short summary of the events unfolding with RO2.

Back in 2005, Gravity announced the development of RO2 through the annual Tokyo Game Show, where videos were displayed as well as get a chance of the gameplay for the select few who attended the event. The new RO2 was officially named: Ragnarok Online 2: The Gate of the World. A year after, on December 2006, Gravity started taking applications to the Closed Beta Testing (CBT). The CBT, which should have lasted 3 days, from Dec 27-29, was actually cut short to only about 10 hours. A second CBT was scheduled for February 2007 which let more people into trying RO2. Most of the testing done was for the purpose of server stress testing as well as player feedback. A third CBT was scheduled for April 2007 which let more people in for testing of RO2. Due to the high traffic, Gravity had to open up more servers to decrease server load times. After the third and final CBT, Gravity announced it would have its Open Beta Testing (OBT) on May 2007. Since May of 2007 up to just recently on August 2, 2010, Ragnarok Online 2: The Gate of the World, has been on Open Beta.

Due to the feedback and events that unfolded during the time RO2 was in its Open Beta stage, Gravity ultimately stopped development of RO2. Around 2009, Gravity announced that it would remake RO2, completely new from scratch including changing the game engine several times during the process of remaking it. Gravity later announced a new official title of the "second" RO2 along with plans on dates for CBT for the "new" RO2. Currently the official name of the "second" RO2 is called Ragnarok Online 2: Legend of the Second with a CBT of August 31st, 2010 in Korea only.

So what exactly sets apart the "old" RO2 with the "new" RO2 besides the failness of the first RO2? Based on the story, the first RO2 had nothing to do with the first RO story-wise. The "new" RO2 is a true predecessor of RO1 in terms of story, as well as classes, maps/locations, pet system, and card system. Changes have been made for obvious reasons but the "new" RO2 promises to bring back what we all love and enjoy of the original RO game. Hopefully Gravity keeps its word on that one.
