Vanguard Princess

Games

Found an interesting game which I would love to share with you all. It's a PC Fighting Game called Vanguard Princess. When I first saw the pictures I thought the characters were very cute and moe-like. After seeing gameplay videos I immidiately thought, "I need to get this now!".

I went ahead and started looking into how I can get my geeky hands on it and found out that the game is provided and downloadable for FREE! Yes, FREE! The only thing to worry about instead is not being able to read Japanese. Now I'm pretty sure you want to see some pictures and videos and THEN you'll be like, "Hey, where's the download link? I want to get this too!"

Here are some awesome pictures of the game!

And here is some juicy video footage of the game!

So by now I'm sure you are wanting to know how to get you grubby little dirty hands on your own copy and start playing. Well, I'll be happy to supply you with the information that you need to get it playing on your PC today!

Go here and click on the blue button to start the download: Vector - Vanguard Princess

In order to be able to play the game, you will need AppLocale installed on your PC. AppLocale will work in Win XP and Vista.

Instructions:

  1. Path to game must contain only Latin chars.
  2. Rename folder ヴァンガードプリンセス to anything else (”vanpri” for example)
  3. Rename ヴァンガードプリンセス.exe to vanpri.exe
  4. Rename ヴァンガードプリンセス.kgt to vanpri.kgt
  5. Use AppLocale, now it works.

 Enjoy playing!

Just found this game, follwed your link, downloaded game, renamed exe, kgt, and the file folder, installed AppLocale. WHEN IT STARTS it goes through "enterbrain" thing, the gears one, and on the Developed By ad it stops and says "GameDemo Open Error"
I haven't tried renaming ALL the Player/Demo/Stage files yet, but I'll do that and get back to ya whether it works or not.
If anyone happens to know what I might be doing wrong, help is appreciated.

I noticed that they released a newer version of the game since the time I wrote this article. Right now I'm downloading the new version and I will test it out to see if I get the same thing. I still have the old initial version release so if all fails then I'd be happy to provide you with my copy which still works as of this day.

Side Note: I dont think it will be necessary to rename the player/demo/stage files as mine still have the japanese characters.

WOW! Nineteen minutes! A new record for people responding to my half-brain comments!
Thank you for the information about the new game, and the offer for the old vers. My computer doesnt even show the Japanese characters (as I'm in the U.S. and am not sure if our computers ever do)
And I never got around to changing the names anyway.
Thanks.

NP ^^ and I live in the US as well but have been able to enable japanese characters for my OS. Depending on which OS you are using, I may be able to help you to see the japanese characters.

I finished getting the new version but havent been able to test it out yet. Once I do I'll get back to you on that. And just for the record, even right now you are still having problems right?

I am using Windows XP.

And Yes I'm still having the same problem.

Ok I downloaded the latest version of Vanguard Princess v1.05 and got the same error as the one you mentioned. Started tinkering with a few things and finally know where the problem lies. The problem is that, with most OS here in the US, it runs non-Unicode programs at the default language, in this case "English (United States)". When running a game made from another country, in this example Japan, the characters wont properly show. You probably notice when you run the game that instead of japanese characters it shows weird letters/numbers and what have you instead of japanese characters. To fix this you will need to go to your regional language and options settings under Control Panel, select the Administrative tab and change the language for non-Unicode programs to "Japanese (Japan)". Since you're running WinXP the settings might be a bit different but it should still be somewhat the same, since I'm going based on Win7 over here in my comp. Give this a try, reboot after changing the settings and try playing the game again to see if it will work. Let me know how it goes.

It works. I had to install some unpacked files and wing most of it, but it works, thanks to you! Now i have to set my controls.
Now I have another pointless game for those moments when I'm over-pressured, you know how it is. With plenty of 'pantsu'.

Glad it worked. Have fun playing it. For a free game, it sure does kick ass and its great to kill some time.

Can I have a link to that? I beat this in two hours on all difficulties with all chars. I'd like to see if there's anything new in the one that just came out.
Was searching around, and apparently there are only a few people who figured out how to fix the unicode problem. They're being swarmed with people like me.
Take yer time, and thanks again.

Do you mean the version 1.05b i was talking about? The link in this article points to the latest version. I've played both the old and new and there isnt "too" much difference nor new characters. Nonetheless if you still want to try it out regardless then just follow the link on the article.
